:: The Princess and the Pea ::

OK - so anyone who follows me on Insta or Facebook knows I have a mild obsession with my beautiful little puppy Mattingly, and if you've seen the photos you know why!

Quick little story for this lovely Friday, growing up my favorite fairy tale was The Princess and the Pea and for this who may not remember the story here it is courtesy of the folks at Wikipedia:

The story tells of a prince who wants to marry a princess, but is having difficulty finding a suitable wife. Something is always wrong with those he meets, and he cannot be certain they are real princesses. One stormy night (always a harbinger of either a life-threatening situation or the opportunity for a romantic alliance in Andersen’s stories),[1] a young woman drenched with rain seeks shelter in the prince’s castle. She claims to be a princess, so the prince’s mother decides to test their unexpected guest by placing a pea in the bed she is offered for the night, covered by 20 mattresses and 20 featherbeds. In the morning the guest tells her hosts that she endured a sleepless night, kept awake by something hard in the bed; which she is certain has bruised her. The prince rejoices. Only a real princess would have the sensitivity to feel a pea through such a quantity of bedding.

I'm not sure why I loved that story so much, maybe because I loved my bed and featherbed, before I was married I had the feather trifecta going on - featherbed, down comforter and down pillows. Then Nick came along and complained of back problems, bye bye featherbed :( I digress..

Which brings me to my little princess, when Nick & I picked up Matty after her long trek from Tennessee we told the people at the stable which pup we were picking up, Sunny Dancer (that was the name the rescue mission gave her haha!) and the gentleman got her and she IMMEDIATELY ran to the only dog bed in the place, and the guy goes "Yeah that one, she loves them pillows" I remember him having a southern accent but it was in Southbury, so he probably didn't. Sure enough Matty loved anything and everything soft, blankets, beds, couches and she was so darn cute how could we deny her of what she innately needed. I could count on one hand how many times she has laid on the floor, and she is often caught nestled in the softest spot in the house, on top of our pillows, down comforter on our bed. She has earned her nickname of the Soft Surface Seeking Dog (SSSD).

Cheers to Friday and being nestled up for our big snow storm this weekend!
